Unisys Increases Grad Intake in the UK for IT Career Path

As an Information Services employer in the UK, Unisys is a bit of a hidden gem when it comes to attracting graduates. Our new grad recruitment has been limited in recent years, but now we are picking it up as we focus on growth areas including cybersecurity (our Stealth solution suite ), x86 servers (our new Forward! by Unisys fabric computing solution) and cloud computing. So, we’re keen to talk to graduates and increase awareness amongst universities and students.

At the University of Hertfordshire Computer Science Careers event on 29th January, we participated in an interactive morning with students, alumni, lecturers and other employers. Many students said that they had heard of Unisys, but many knew little about what Unisys does. It was a pleasure to see the positive reaction when I explained that we operate across the Financial Services, Commercial, Communications and Public Sector domains, and that we have a breadth of opportunities for new graduates, typically in areas such as Java and .Net design/develop; junior IT project management; Stealth Security; Secure Mobile Apps; IT Managed Services & Support and Storage, Infrastructure and Cloud Solutions etc.

What struck me most was how much the students enjoyed discussing these opportunities face-to-face. It provided for a very engaging and human connection. On-line connections are of course valuable and easy to establish, but Unisys cares very much about employee behavioural competences and it was very rewarding to see that reflected in discussions with students as they asked about what it was like to work at Unisys. We want to attract applicants who will enjoy working at providing a professional service; being passionate about the human side of solutions as well as the technical side.

Joining Unisys as a graduate trainee and learning best practice solution service methodologies will open the door to a successful career for Computer Science and IT graduates. I look forward to building on this renewed connection with the student community as we look to recruit more graduates into Unisys UK over the next few years.
